Useful information for foreign nurses

Welcome Dear Colleague,
To enroll you as a member of the IPASVI College in Brescia you need the following requisites:

•Recognition of your qualifications to work as a nurse
•Pass an exam to verify:

1. Your knowledge and good command of the Italian language, if you come from a European and not- Eu Country
2. Your knowledge of the Italian law concerning the practice of the profession, if you come from a non Eu Country.

We warn you that the REGISTRATION TO THE COLLEGE IS COMPULSORY TO WORK IN ITALY. You can enroll you as a member of the IPASVI College in the province where you live or in the one where you work: professional domicile. ______________________________________________________________

PROCEDURE TO REGISTER TO THE IPASVI COLLEGE IN BRESCIA:

REMEMBER to get the recognition of your qualifications to work as a nurse before asking for enrolment. The relevant authorities are: The Ministry for Health (Ministero della Salute) if you got your educational qualifications in one of the European Community Country and you are a citizen of an European or not EU Country. The offices of the Italian Regions authorized by the Ministry in case you got your qualifications in a non EU Country.

ATTENTION: the recognition decrees of your qualification lose their effect after two years from the date of issue, if you are not put on the register. _____________________________________________________________

A) IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU REGISTER TO AN ITALIAN IPASVI COLLEGE:
 
1. Download the list of documents you need for the recognition of your qualifications (see link below), for foreign nurses of EU and non EU nurses and send them to the proper offices.
2. After you have got the recognition of your qualifications by the Ministry for Health or by the Region Lombardy called "decreto di riconoscimento del titolo di studio" you can download from the IPASVI College of Brescia the  list of documents to ask for the exam and go to the College to give all your documents.  Office hours…..
3. Before the registration you will be offered a free test to verify the knowledge of the Italian language. This will be done c/o our college. This test will be evaluated by a certified institute of languages and will give you a level of knowledge and good command of the Italian language, compared to the European reference standard. To take this test, which we strongly recommend, call us during office hours, fix a date and come to our office with a valid identity card or passport; you will have to answer to 100 questions in one hour. We inform you that during the test you can ask for explanation only to the authorized people . You will be informed of the test result in the following days. If your test result states your level is not in line with the European standard, you will be proposed to follow some courses to improve your knowledge of the Italian language.
4. After the examination present yourself with the documents written at point 2 to take the test to verify the knowledge of the Italian language and/or the test to verify your knowledge of the Italian law concerning the practice of the profession.

We inform you that:

•The test is done c/o our College every two months or when there are at least eight applicants. You will be informed of the date and hour of the test by recorded delivery letter.
•The examining board is made by a President, a recording secretary (both nurses) and by a teacher of Italian language in possess of necessary requirements.
•There will be an oral and a written test.
•You will be informed of the results at the end of the tests.
•You can study using the book "Essere Infermiere in Italia" see link which will be given you when you present yourself for the test verifying the knowledge of the Italian language.

B) IF YOU ARE ASKING TO MOVE FROM AN OTHER ITALIAN IPASVI COLLEGE TO OURS:

1. Present yourself to our secretary or download from our site the  list of the necessary documents and the application for  transfer form.
2. Before the registration you will be offered a free test to verify the knowledge of the Italian language. This test will be evaluated by a certified institute of languages and will give you a level of knowledge and good command of the Italian language, compared to the European reference standard. To do this test, which is compulsory, call us during office hours and fix the date and hour with our staff. Present yourself with a valid identity card or passport. you will have to answer to 100 questions in one hour. We inform you that during the test you can ask for explanation only to the authorized people . You will be informed of the test result in the following days. If your test result states your level is not in line with the European standard, you will be proposed to follow some courses to improve your knowledge of the Italian language.

*EXAMINATION:

A) A written part:

•Written test: 10 questions with multiple answers concerning the medical field.
•Written test: connection of 10 medical words to their definitions (meaning)
•Written test: completion of a medical procedure (ex. Procedure for antiseptic washing of your hands) adding 10 words (already available but not in order)
•Written test: planning nursing care about a dictated clinical case.


B) An oral part:

•Exam to verify the good command of the Italian language (for all the foreign nurses) and the knowledge of the Italian law concerning the practice of the profession (only for non-EU nurses).

QUALIFICATIONS GOT IN EUROPEAN COMMUNITY COUNTRIES

The procedure of recognition is different according to:

• You are a citizen of the European Community
• You are a not-EU citizen


QUALIFICATIONS GOT IN NON-EU COUNTRIES

If you are a EU or not-EU citizen and you got your qualifications in a not-EU Country, you always have to ask for recognition of your qualifications even if they have already been recognized by the authority of an other EU Country. The Ministry for Health, in this case, will take into consideration possible additional education and/or professional work you have done in the Countries of the EU Community.
